Supporting Healing and Wellness in Whitecourt: Free Counselling for Indigenous Clients through NIHB

Landscape of Alberta

Grief, stress, trauma, and life changes can take a toll on our mental health — especially when support feels hard to find close to home. For Indigenous individuals living in Whitecourt and surrounding communities, the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program offers a way to access compassionate, confidential counselling at no cost.

Making Counselling Accessible

The NIHB program, funded by Indigenous Services Canada, covers sessions with approved psychologists for First Nations and Inuit clients with a valid Status Card. Through this program, clients can receive professional counselling either in person in Whitecourt or online anywhere in Alberta.

Many people don’t realize that this option exists — and that you don’t have to go through a referral or pay upfront. I handle all billing directly with NIHB.

Local and Culturally Respectful Support

Access to therapy can be limited in smaller Alberta communities. Offering NIHB-approved psychological services in Whitecourt helps bridge that gap, so people can receive care closer to home or online from wherever they are. My approach is holistic, trauma-informed and culturally respectful,
